What we do...

tulips
  • Arbor Day Celebration: Club sponsors a community celebration and tree planting.
  • Dirt Wednesdays/Civic Beautification: Workdays are scheduled monthly for those willing to get their hands dirty and their spirits lifted. Members are encouraged to identify public areas in our county where we can make a difference.
  • Flower Arranging Classes: Members learn flower show criteria for creating blue-ribbon arrangements.
  • Flower Show: Our club coordinates and competes in the Northern California Daffodil Society Flower Show every March at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys.
  • Hort Report: Summarizes what to do in your garden each month.
  • Landscape Design Class: The Landscape Design Study Program is sponsored by the National Garden Clubs, coordinated by the California State Garden Clubs and hosted by Calaveras County Garden Club. Students successfully completing the series will become accredited Landscape Design consultants.
  • Market Receipts: Save and turn in receipts from Angels Market, Big Trees Market, Sierra Hills Market and Calaveras Lumber. These merchants generously give back a percentage of purchases to our Club.
  • Opportunity Drawing: Member-donated items are offered at monthly meetings as a fundraiser.
  • Penny Pines: Members donate monies to the USDA Forest Service at each meeting to purchase pine seedling plantations that will be used to reforest the Stanislaus National Forest after fires.
  • Poppy Project: Poppy seed spreading along historic Highways 49 and 4 to establish a golden palette of color from spring through summer.
  • Scholarship: Two $1000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from the local high schools who have horticulture or environmentally related education goals.
  • Secret Gardeners: Members build relationships anonymously through the Club year.
  • Tours: Tours of private and public gardens and locations of interest are coordinated for Club members.
  • Workshops: Various workshops are offered to member throughout the Club year. Check the calendar for topics, dates and locations.
